RUNNING TIME: 186 minutes.
This adaptation blends The Shining and Doctor Sleep.
It focuses on Danny Torrance, now an adult struggling with alcohol abuse.
The story includes flashbacks to his childhood at the Overlook Hotel, which recounts the experiences of Jack and Wendy Torrance.
The timeline spans the years 1978, 2011, and 2019.
I previously mentioned my dissatisfaction with certain characters in Doctor Sleep.
In my edit, the actors who portrayed Dick Halloran, Wendy, Danny, and Jack Torrance have been completely removed.
Their presence did not enhance the film.
As for The Shining, I approached it similarly to how I did in my earlier edit, Room 237.
Danny Torrance is depicted as a boy with an exceptional gift; however, there is no character named Tony, “the little boy who lives in his mouth.”
Additionally, there is no connection with Halloran, who is simply presented as a cook, without the deeper relationships seen in the original story of The Shining.
In my adaptation, Danny begins to sense that there is something special about room 237, which allows me to introduce his gift.
The edit alternates between scenes, and we also meet Rose the Hat, where the ultimate confrontation occurs.
I have completely removed the introduction of one of the characters from Rose’s gang.
The music for this adaptation was primarily composed by the Newton Brothers, who created the original score for Doctor Sleep.
I also incorporated some of their music into The Shining, so several scenes feature this score.
The edit has been converted to 4K using Topaz, and the audio is formatted in 7.1 surround sound.
